Treating those Sports injuries

Many of us like to participate in sports activities: from those who have an avid interest to those who just wish to keep fit, from the elite professional to the casual participant. Many of the injuries that occur when taking part in sport e.g. tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, biceps tendonitis, are the result of overuse or bad technique, playing too hard or too often, from poor preparation such as not warming up beforehand, not warming down after exercise or inadequate post-activity rehabilitation. However, with our specially-honed palpation skills, osteopaths can detect injury and correct minor bone misplacements.

Osteopaths can help improve performance as well as treat the occurrence of injury. By using our knowledge of diagnosis and highly developed palpatory skills we can identify mechanical dysfunction, help to restore structural balance, improve joint mobility and reduce adhesions and soft tissue restrictions so that ease of movement is restored and performance enhanced. For those of you wishing to keep fit, our osteopaths can help you keep supple and improve muscle tone, so reducing the risk of injury to soft tissues unaccustomed to the extra work they are being asked to do. As osteopaths, we may also offer advice on preparation, diet, exercises and after-care to help you with your specific sport, so you can excel.
